What is Kundalini Yoga?
With roots in ancient wisdom passed down from teachers to students across millenia, Kundalini Yoga is an empowering technology that supports the awakening of your own inner intelligence for health, happiness, and spiritual vitality.
Kundalini Yoga is called the Yoga of Awareness. It is a dynamic, powerful tool that is designed to give you an experience of your soul. The human form is the most sophisticated piece of equipment on the planet and yet we have little instruction to show us how to get the best out of it.
Kundalini Yoga is a complete science which works through the body mind and spirit to deliver us to our birthright - grace and greatness!
Kundalini Yoga impacts all aspects of our physical, mental and spiritual being. It promotes a general sense of relaxation and wellbeing by balancing the glandular system and strengthening the nervous system.
Rather than being controlled by our thoughts and feelings, this empowering practice can help us to harness the energy of the mind and our emotions by bringing emotional balance and enhanced intuition. It also helps to eliminate negative habits and increase our radiance and the impact we have on others.
In Kundalini Yoga we harness the mental, physical, and nervous energies of the body and put them under the domain of the will, which is the instrument of the soul. This technology precisely and consciously combines breath, mudra, eye-focus, mantra, body locks, and postures to balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand lung capacity, and purify the blood. It brings balance to the body, mind, and soul.
Kundalini Yoga is not a religion. When we apply the technology of Kundalini Yoga to our bodies and minds, it has the effect of uplifting the spirit. It is for everyone. It is universal and nondenominational.
Kundalini Yoga is an empowering tool to help people cope with the daily challenges and stresses of life to find greater harmony.
Kundalini Yoga was kept very secret until 1969 when Yogi Bhajan taught it openly in order to prepare humanity for the major changes that this planet is going through as we cross from the Piscean to the Aquarian Age. The ancient technology of Kundalini Yoga gives us the awareness and the fortitude to make this a smooth transition.
What Happens in a Kundalini Yoga class?
We begin by “tuning in” with a short mantra then some warm up exercises and follow this with a Kriya – a Yoga set of exercises for a specific purpose. This includes stretching postures, movement exercises, breathing exercises and chanting mantras. Mantras may seem strange at first but they are Yoga for the mind, they set up sound vibrations in the body and change mental states. Finally we finish with relaxation and/or meditation.
Bring a yoga mat and a blanket to keep warm during relaxation or meditation. Wear loose comfortable clothing, bring water to drink and avoid eating a meal for about 2 hours before the class (a light healthy snack is ok).
